Aftermath of the severe thunderstorm

The Western Down regional council stated that the storm had damaging winds, with a number of trees falling. (Western Downs regional council).

Severe storms swept through the Western Downs on Thursday afternoon, 23 January.

From Dalby branching up towards Jandowae, the thunderstorm cell was the most severe, bringing hail and destructive winds.

Dalby faced wind gusts upwards of 60km/h between 3-4pm as the large storm cells past over heading northeast. The thunderstorm storm was moving fast, with only 4.4 mm of rain reordered.

While Miles the storm was milder with wind gusts only going up to 50km/h, at around 8pm.

No roads seem to be flooded due to the storm.

POWER OUTAGES

There are a number of unplanned power outages across the region.

Ergon has confirmed that 32 homes and businesses have lost power due to the storm activity in the Diamondy and Jandowae areas. It is unknown when power will be restored to the area.

There are a number of other unplanned power outages in the area due to damage, however Ergon is yet to confirm if it is due to the storm activity.

192 homes and businesses in the Bunya Mountains, Dalby, Kaimkillenbun, Moola, Mount Mowbullan, Mowbullan, and Yamsion area are facing a loss of power due to damage requiring emergency repairs. Ergon has estimated power should be restored by 4pm.

Nine homes in the Daandine, Dalby and Ranges Bridge area are facing a power loss due to damage requiring emergency repairs. Ergon is correctly working to find the fault finding is in progress. They have estimated power will be restored at 3pm, Friday 24 January.

52 homes in Bell and Cooranga North are also facing unplanned power outages due to damage. Power is not estimated to come on until 6pm, Friday 24 January,

Two homes in Kaimkillenbun are facing an unplanned loss of power as well, however Ergon claims the power should be back by 12pm.
